Charleston Core
About Charleston Core
Charleston Core is a project dedicated to promote the use of semantic web technology to develop web based application for proteomics research
Mission and Scope
The mission of CC is to advance research in the direction of semantic-based representation of proteomic experimental data and semantic-based tools to acquire, build, transmit and process proteomic data with their associated knowledge. We anticipate the future proteomic data are represented in such that knowledge is explicit represented and, therefore, they can be easily retrieved, shared and exploited to create new knowledge. Toward this goal are the following activities:
- Developing ontologies in Ontology Web Language (OWL) for expressing proteomics' experimental data
- Defining framework for interoperable data where applications can be developed based on ontologies defined in item 1.
- Promoting the development of community based standard that are consistent with the above two goals
The range of the activities include:
- Ontology based data standard development and maintenance
- Tools, service, and infrastructure to support the use of ontology
Support
This work was supported by the NHLBI Proteomics Initiative through contract N01-HV-28181 to the Medical University of South Carolina, PI. D. Knapp, specifically as refers to the work of its bioinformatics core (core C) and mathematically modeling project (project 7), as well as by its administrative center, separately funded by the same initiative to the same institution, PI. M.P. Schachte.
